Abstract

The safest way to transport a risk Newborn (NB) is the intrauterine which can be provided only in 40% of cases, thus the birth of a preterm fetus and / or sick occurs in secondary and primary centers, requiring transfer to specialized neonatal care unit (BRAZIL, 2010). Among the means of transport there is the rotary wing aircraft medical service (helicopter), which provides the removal of critically ill patients in a radius of 160km to 240km in an agile and secure way. The purpose of this study is to characterize the neonatal transport in Aeromedical Service based in Cascavel in two years of operations. Prematurity was responsible for 38.4% of the transfer requests, followed by congenital heart diseases with 36.4% of cases. Respiratory complications, such as respiratory distress, meconium aspiration, pulmonary hypertension, amounted to 13.1% of cases. The pathologies that needed removal to surgical interventions totaled 12.1% and one NB by persistent hypoglycemia. As regards the indication of this kind of transport, it was shown that the severity of NB justified the request, 88.9% of the total required oxygen support and 66.7% were on mechanical ventilation; 30% made use of vasoactive drugs and central venous access. It was evident the high index of aeromedical transport in Cascavel base in neonatal area, totaling 17.6% of all attendances in two years of service. It is known that new technologies associated with the advancement of medicine increased NB life expectancy which has increased the demand for even more specialized services.
