Prevention and care of skin health in eldery people: integrative review

The geriatric phase implies morphological, biochemical, physiological, and psychosocial changes caused by the aging process. The objective of this study was to analyze the main prevention and care strategies for managing skin health in older people. This is an integrative literature review, with searches in the PubMed, Google Scholar, and CAPES Journal Portal databases. After analyzing the studies, two categories were identified: the importance of appropriate care practices for skin hygiene and health; and clinical evaluation, treatment, and specific interventions performed by health professionals in skin care. The studies showed similarities in skin hygiene and topical care practices, as well as in the prevention and treatment of lesions conducted by trained professionals. Given the relevance of the topic, further studies are needed to improve care practices and develop more effective approaches for the prevention and treatment of dermatological conditions in the older population.
