Humanization in the Intensive Care Unit: nursing perceptions in light of Wanda Horta

This study aims to understand the nursing team's perception of the application of humanized care in adult ICUs, relating it to Wanda Horta's theory. The research was conducted in an adult ICU of a large hospital located in Curitiba, recognized as a reference in humanization. Thirteen nursing professionals responded to a semi-structured interview. Data analysis was carried out using content analysis, as proposed by Bardin. Three categories emerged from the discourses. Gaps in care were identified, such as the number and qualification of professionals, the need for greater institutional support and nursing management, understanding the typical ICU patient, communication between professionals and with patients, and the need to discuss humanized care practices. Wanda Horta's theory can be used as a theoretical basis for humanization.
