Features of traffic accidents and their victims, in Campo Mourão, Paraná, Brazil

This study aimed to feature the traffic accidents and their victims in Campo Mourão, Parana, Brazil from 2005 to 2007. The instrument for collecting data was the report of service of the first responder (RSFR) of the Campo Mourão Fire Department, and the results were analyzed using Epi Info/3.4.3.Version. During the study period there were 1,983 accidents with 2,683 casualties. The most frequent accident was the collision between automobiles and motorcycles, however, the greatest number of deaths were from accidents between automobiles. Most accidents occurred during the week, in the central region, in the late afternoon and early evening. Regarding the 2,683 victims, most were young, male and motorcycle drivers. Therefore, it is necessary to implement actions and educational programs, urban planning, traffic supervision, especially in the central region and at the times and days when most accidents occur.Downloads
