This study had as objective to identify factors that influence activities performed by nurses in health education, aiming at health promotion and prevention of breast cancer. This is a descriptive and qualitative study developed with eight nurses working in the Family Health Strategy (FHS) in a city in the southern region of Mato Grosso state. Data was collected through individual semistructured interviews in the period between August and October of 2012. In order to interpret data, we used the content analysis method. Two categories emerged: positive factors that influence compliance of the female population to health education activities, and aspects that hinder the activities of the involved nurses. It was evidenced that appropriate working conditions are indispensable to nurses working at FHS regarding material and adequate physical infrastructure, as well as technical and scientific knowledge to carry out those actions.Downloads
