Medical residency is a crucial phase in the training of health professionals, but it can result in moments of psychological distress and lead to the development of Burnout Syndrome (BS). The objective of the research is to analyze the prevalence and causes of burnout in medical residents in Brazil. To this end, the study analyzed scientific sources available in indexed databases Lilacs, Scielo and Latindex, published between 2018 and 2024, excluding research with residents from other countries and including research from diferent states of Brazil. In one of the studies, the rate of participants with stress reached 55.7%. In addition, 13.5% reported symptoms of depression and 5.8% were diagnosed with Burnout Syndrome. Studies and initiatives focused on caring for the mental health of residents are needed. Psychology can contribute to medical training by offering emotional support and developing strategies that promote well-being.
