This is a scoping review protocol designed to map the available evidence on the effects of rural internships in medical education and their contribution to rural healthcare. Rural internships represent a significant stage in medical education, as they foster the development of clinical competencies, engagement with the social determinants of health, and the strengthening of Primary Health Care in vulnerable contexts. The review will include studies and grey literature published in Portuguese, English, or Spanish that address the influence of rural internships on medical training and health care delivery. The methodology will follow the JBI guidelines and the PRISMA-ScR checklist. Searches will be conducted in the PubMed, BVS, ERIC, and SciELO databases, using DeCS/MeSH descriptors related to Medical Internship, Rural Population, and Medical Education.
