This study aimed to verify the effectiveness of the embracement of users in the Basic Care Units in the state of Paraná, registered in the National Program for Improving Access and Quality of Primary Care. The study was descriptive and quantitative, data were provided by the Department of Primary Care/Ministry of Health, which contained information of 998 professionals interviewed, in the second half of 2012. This study emphasized that 78.3% of respondents said that this process exists and is implemented in the primary care unit, and 51.8% reported having received training to carry out embracement, and 68.2% perform user embracement at spontaneous demand with risk assessment and classification and vulnerability, and 74,3% of nurses are involved in this activity of embracement. The user embracement is a normal practice in the basic care units of Paraná, with the nurse involvement being highlighted. It is important to consider the need for continuing education involving all primary care professionals, to improve outcomes for access to services and population health in Parana.Downloads
